Nagaland's Hornbill Festival is the North East's most spectacular cultural event, and timing your trip around it takes a little planning.
The dates
The festival runs 1–10 December every year at Kisama Heritage Village near Kohima. The opening days are the most vibrant.
Book early
Accommodation in and around Kohima is extremely limited and sells out months ahead, so early confirmation is essential for groups.
What to combine
Pair the festival with Khonoma village, the Kohima War Cemetery and, for the fit, a trek to the Dzukou Valley.
