The valley floor is a patchwork of pine forest and river meadows, watched over by a 400-year-old Buddhist monastery and the tribal villages of the Memba and Ramo people.

Reaching Mechuka is a long, scenic overland journey via Aalo (Along), rewarded by a sense of genuine frontier remoteness few places in India still offer.
