North East India is increasingly popular with international visitors, but a few extra rules apply compared with mainstream India.
Permits and registration
Foreigners need a Protected Area Permit (PAP) for Arunachal and parts of Sikkim, and must register on arrival in states like Nagaland and Mizoram. Some restricted areas require travelling in a small group through a registered operator.
Which states are easiest
Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura have no special permit for foreigners (beyond an Indian visa), making them the simplest entry points to the region.
- Indian visa required (as for all India)
- PAP for Arunachal & parts of Sikkim
- Register on arrival in some states
- We handle all permits & formalities
As a registered operator, we manage every permit for foreign travellers — request net rates.
