Most of Sikkim, including Gangtok, is freely accessible to Indian nationals; foreigners receive a simple Inner Line-style permit on entry for the main areas.
Restricted zones
Tsomgo Lake, Nathula, and all of North Sikkim (Lachung, Lachen, Gurudongmar) require protected-area permits and registered vehicles, issued through a local operator.
