Sikkim Travel Guide: Gangtok, North Sikkim and Beyond

Sikkim sits beneath Kanchenjunga, the world's third-highest mountain, and packs an astonishing range of landscapes into a small state — from subtropical valleys to glacial lakes above 5,000 metres.

Gangtok and East Sikkim

The lively capital, Gangtok, is the usual base, with day trips to the sacred Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir. The dramatic Silk Route around Zuluk offers hairpin drama for the adventurous.

North Sikkim's high country

The north holds Sikkim's showpieces: the alpine villages of Lachung and Lachen, the flower-filled Yumthang Valley and the sacred high-altitude lake of Gurudongmar. Permits and acclimatisation are essential here.

West Sikkim

Pelling delivers front-row Kanchenjunga views and old monasteries like Pemayangtse — a quieter, scenic counterpoint to Gangtok.

  • Permits needed for North & East Sikkim (we arrange them)
  • Best views: October–December; blooms: March–May
  • Allow acclimatisation days for high altitude
  • Combine easily with Darjeeling

We handle every Sikkim permit in-house and use experienced high-altitude drivers. Agents can request net rates for any Sikkim circuit.
